Unfortunately, duplicate contacts do happen and we cannot always prevent this. It is crucial to stay on top of managing duplicates to reduce the risk of emailing your contacts multiple times or having out-of-date data.
Why do I have duplicate contacts?
Imported contacts are matched on combinations of their account name, first name, last name, email, mobile, and address fields. When there are contacts with outdated information, those with multiple email addresses, or simply a spelling mistake or typo then there is the risk of a duplicate contact being created.
Contacts coming in from a widget also undergo match criteria to find an existing contact in your vega but again there is the possibility of spelling mistakes or outdated information and vega will not be able to confirm an exact match so a new contact will be created.
Using the personalised widget GUID link in your emails can help prevent duplicates from being created as it will know the exact contact matched from the email sent from vega.
How do I check my duplicate contacts?
You can view the contacts that vega has assessed as possible duplicates from Admin > Merge Contacts
You will see a grid of all possible duplicates found in your vega with a score on how likely they are:
