The widget configuration can be accessed from Admin > Widget Configuration, once your event has been created in Engage and the option to Create a Widget is ticked:
Click the Event type to see your existing event widgets with the option to edit any of these and open the configuration:
Select Custom Attributes from the configuration options on the left-hand side.
This section will allow you to add custom fields to your event form, capturing additional information about your attendees and requiring any necessary details needed for your event.
Each of these will be linked to an attribute or attribute type, these will need to be established before adding them to your widget.
Some example uses for these custom attributes would be:
Specific seating or allocation requests
Menu options for when food is included at an event
Sign-up for further correspondence
We will now go through each aspect of setting up these custom attributes, let's add in a question asking how our donor heard about us.
Custom Attribute Field | Explanation |
This will be the label for your question. When used with CheckBox or Radio Button options, the attribute name will also be displayed. This label does not apply to the date select option, only the attribute name will be used. When using an attribute type this label will only be used for Drop-down, CheckBox or Radio Button options. |
|
Using an attribute type will show each attribute within this type as an option: This uses the select option as a drop-down |
|
Using an attribute will show this attribute as the only field: This uses the select option as a checkbox |
|
Full detail on the option types are shown in the table below:

Custom Attribute Field | Explanation |
This can be used in conjunction with the Drop-down option type. The attribute type selected here will show each attribute as an option in the list. This can be used as scale options, for example; 1-10, great- bad, happy- unhappy. This rating can then be used for multiple attributes within a type for a consistent format: The attribute selected here will be recorded as the attribute value on the attribute set up |
Our next step in the configuration is to decide on the position of our field in the donation form:
Custom Attribute Position | Explanation |
This will display the attribute between the name and email fields: |
|
This will display the attribute between the email: |
|
This will display the attribute at the bottom of the Personal Information section: |
|
This will display the attribute below the submit button:
This will display the attribute on the thank you page, if no thank you page has been selected the text below will be displayed: |
|
This determines the order of attributes in the same section, the lowest number will be at the top. |
Next, we can customise the size of the label and select option and configure our rows:
Custom Attribute Format | Explanation |
This is used to order attributes added to the same section of the form
This is used to customise the size of the select option, 12 is the full width of the donation form, 6 is half the width etc For example, a Yes/No field could be set as 2 and still show the options fully: If a text box was set as 2 then it would be a small area for the donor to write in If this is used and the below option is blank, the label text will be set as the same size above the select option |
|
This is used to customise the width of the label text, 12 is full width, 6 is half etc. When this option is used the label and select option will be displayed on one row unless the combined size options equal more than 12 Both options set at 2: This can only be used for dropdown, text box, and text area options. |
|
When the two size options are left blank, the attribute field will default as half the width of the donation form and display the label text above the select option |
The final step in custom attributes allows you to add a comment field to the individual attribute field, set it as mandatory and mark it as active.
Custom Attribute Setting | Explanation |
This will display a text box under your attribute option and will be recorded as the attribute comment on the contact |
|
This will display a red asterisk at the end of your attribute label and means your donor is required to complete this field |
|
