Donation prompts are created for each contact based on their giving history. These can be used as merge tags in emails and replace the prompt amounts in widgets to personalise the donation ask for each contact.
There are default prompt settings available, and they use the calculations provided below, but you can also create your own as described in this article.
Custom Donation Prompts
From Admin > Contact Settings > Contact Donation Prompts, you can click Add Settings to create your own prompt calculations.
You can create multiple settings to have different prompt calculations for different groups of contacts.
You will need to ensure that contacts will not be included in multiple settings.
This will open the pop-up shown below:

| Default Values | These three defaults will be used as the three prompts for contacts included in this setting that do not have any donation history. |
| Payment Types Included |
These are the different payment types that will be included to find the average payment for each contact. In the example above, any payments recorded as supporter-led or membership (as seen on the payment form below) will not be included when finding the average donation value. Pledge and Invoice types will always be excluded. |
| Calculation of Average Payment Value |
The three prompt values entered here will be multiplied by the average payment amount to create the three donation prompts. The years allows you to specify how many years should be used to calculate the average payment amount. In the example above, prompt 1 will be 1.5 times the average donation value, prompt 2 will be 2 times the average donation value, and prompt 3 will be 2.5 times the average donation value for the last five years. |
| Contacts |
There are three options to choose from here: Recurring Donors Only - This will generate the donation prompts based on these settings for all contacts that have an open recurring payment. Non Recurring Donors Only - This will generate the donation prompts based on these settings for all contacts that do not have an open recurring payment. All Contacts - This will generate the donation prompts based on these settings for all contacts. |
| Exclude Contacts | Attributes can be added here, and any contact with an open status of any of these attributes will not be included. |
| Include Contacts | Attributes can be added here, and only contacts who have one of these attributes will be included. |
| Active | This will be ticked as default, and any setting not ticked as active will not be used to update donation prompts. |
Select your prompt settings for your requirements and click Save, and you will see an alert "Prompt setting has been saved successfully! The contacts included will be updated over night."
The prompt setting will be displayed in a table and will show that it is pending an update. The next night, the update will be run, and all contacts that have been defined to be included in the settings will have their donation prompts updated as per the calculation set.
There is also a table stored in the database that will adjust the prompt amounts to be rounded to a more appropriate ask amount, as shown below:

Once the update has been run, the prompt table will be updated to show when it was last updated.
The row can be clicked to open the settings and changes can be made, and then save,d and it will show as pending update again to run the next update and update the included contacts.
When a contact has a change to their payments, whether an existing payment is updated or a new payment is added, a service will run that checks that contact against any prompt settings you have and then applies the settings to their new average payment amount and updates the donation prompts.
