The Membership widget is a powerful tool for managing membership subscriptions and renewals.
You can create and edit widgets under Admin > Widget Configuration:
Within the widget configuration page, we will see the types of widgets available. We can create new ones (click the 'Create Membership Widget' button) or edit any existing ones (find the widget you want to edit in the Widget Name list and click the 'Edit' button next to it):
This article will detail the Advanced Configuration settings. You can click the links below to read about other settings in the membership widget:
Form Setup | Form Options | Acknowledgements | Financial | Widget Code | Custom Attributes | Discounts | More Options > CSS |
The Advanced configuration section of the widget allows you to set specific rules and outcomes for every combination of membership type/attribute/donation processed within the membership widget.
When these rules are configured and the processed membership matches all of the settings, the assigned rule outcomes will be used, not the acknowledgement and financial settings configured under the menu options.
Please note- The financial settings will still be used for the donation campaign and GL Code.
Please see below for the possible settings and outcomes available in these settings:
Advanced configuration Rule Settings | Advanced configuration Outcomes
Should the rule depend on an attribute selection? | Contact acknowledgement email
What membership type will this rule apply to? | Contact acknowledgement email attachment
Is the membership purchased as a renewal? | Gift recipient contact acknowledgement email
Is the membership purchased with a donation? | Membership payment GL Code
Is the membership purchased as a gift? | Membership payment Campaign |
These settings allow more customisation within the membership widget and can be used to set different acknowledgement and attachment documents for different membership types, as well as different financial coding.
These settings could also be used with the attribute option where the contact will need to make a choice of attribute options and this will determine the acknowledgement and financial outcomes.
Please see below for further detail on each configuration setting and outcome:
Configuration Rule Setting or Outcome | Explanation |
Yes- When this setting is selected to use attributes it will allow you to select an attribute type and attribute. Multiple rules can be configured for all attributes within a type or attributes from different attribute types. These attributes will be displayed on the widget form for the contact to select from and determine the rule that follows. The selected attribute will also be added to the payment as a payment attribute. No- When this setting is selected to not use an attribute, the following rules can be set up based on the Membership type selected only. This can be used to set different acknowledgements and financial coding based on the membership type and donation, renewal or gift options. |
|
|
When the above setting is chosen as Yes, the dropdown selectors will be displayed for you to choose an attribute type and attribute. This can be used to add each attribute within the same type or different attributes from multiple attribute types. An example use-case here would be to add a rule for each Allocation attribute or Contact Branch attribute. These will be displayed on the widget as per the settings chosen under Form Setup. |
You will now need to choose a membership type for this rule. The last option in the dropdown, All, will automatically create a rule with the same settings chosen in the following options for every membership type with a threshold amount (all membership options in your widget). This can speed up the process of creating rules to cover all membership options.
Yes- When this setting is selected as Yes, the rule will only apply to memberships processed with the option 'I am renewing my membership' ticked, and matching all other settings within the rule. No- When this setting is selected as No, the rule will only apply to memberships processed where the option 'I am renewing my membership' is not ticked, and matching all other settings within the rule. |
|
Yes- When this setting is selected as Yes, the rule will only apply to memberships processed with an additional donation, and matching all other settings in the rule. No- When this setting is selected as No, the rule will only apply to memberships processed without an additional donation, and matching all other settings in the rule. |
|
This rule setting is linked to the option to Show Gift Membership being activated or not in the widget. This is available to include under Form Options: Yes- When this setting is selected as Yes, the rule will only apply to memberships processed with the option 'I would like to gift a membership to someone' is ticked, and matching all other settings within the rule. No- When this setting is selected as No, the rule will only apply to memberships processed with the option 'I would like to gift a membership to someone' is not ticked, and matching all other settings within the rule. |
|
|
When the above setting is chosen as Yes, a dropdown will be displayed for you to choose a document for the gift membership email. The chosen document will be sent to the email address entered when the widget option is ticked and the options for who will receive the gift are displayed, as shown below: This document will send as email content only, no attachment will be included. This can be used to send a document advising the gift recipient and use the merge tag #GiftMembershipFrom# to include details of the contact gifting the membership, see more detail on this setting under Form Options. |
This will allow you to choose a document to be sent to the contact (the contact buying the membership if a gift is selected) as the content of the email. The membership purchase must match all rule settings configured for this document to be sent in acknowledgement.
This will allow you to choose a document to be sent to the contact (the contact buying the membership if a gift is selected) as the email attachment to the above email content document. The membership purchase must match all rule settings configured for this document to be sent as the acknowledgement attachment.
This will allow you to choose the GL Code to be assigned to the membership payment when the purchase matches all rule settings.
This will allow you to choose the Campaign to be assigned to the membership payment when the purchase matches all rule settings. |
The screen recording below shows how some example rules have been set up, using the Contact Branch Attributes. The recording shows all head office attributes being added for all membership types, the same process would then need to be done for the other attributes, branch 1 and branch 2. The example below uses the same campaign and GL code for all membership types. Adding the rule for each individual membership type, instead of selecting All, will allow you to set different outcomes for each of these.
There are 8 possible rule combinations for each membership type, all shown in the recording above:
Rule setting | Explanation |
This rule will apply to all transactions processed for a membership only.
This rule will apply to all transactions processed for a renewing membership.
This rule will apply to all transactions processed for a membership with a donation.
This rule will apply to all transactions processed for a gift membership.
This rule will apply to all transactions processed for a renewing membership with a donation.
This rule will apply to all transactions processed for a renewing gift membership.
This rule will apply to all transactions processed for a gift membership with a donation.
This rule will apply to all transactions processed for a renewing gift membership with a donation. |
Every rule combination above will need to be added for each membership type and each attribute (if including attributes on your widget).
If you do not have the setting active to offer gift memberships then none of those rules will need to be added.
Please note- It is the user's responsibility to ensure that only one rule is created for each type of membership purchase. For example, if you set two rules with the same settings but different outcomes, only one can be used.
Rules can be Edited, Viewed in full or Deleted from the Existing Advanced Configuration table:
Here is an example of a rule viewed in full, showing all of the settings and outcomes:
Displaying advanced configuration rules with attributes
When using attributes with your advanced configuration rules there are two display options available, as well as three placement options. These are set under Form Options.
The display options available are buttons or a dropdown. This will display all attribute options in a single dropdown menu or a row of buttons for the user to choose from.
Buttons:
Dropdown:
These will be ordered in the dropdown and buttons by the attribute type sequence and then the attribute sequence, with the lowest sequence at the top of the dropdown and left of the buttons. The attribute with the lowest sequence will also be selected as the default.
These can be set to display at the very top of the widget, above the membership type section, or below the membership type section.
The section will be automatically populated with a label saying "Please select an option below:"
Styling of the attribute buttons or dropdown can be customised with CSS.
